Hello Tim.

I do see your point and agree it’s a difficult restriction. I’ve already raised exactly this point with the Community Development Foundation, who are running this funding programme on behalf of the Goverment. This was their response on 21st February:

“Unfortunately Government guidelines preclude the use of professional
marketing with its grant programmes”

I will pass this comment on to them as coming from the community this grant is designed to benefit. Unless they change or refine this ruling we can only work to the rules as they currently stand, unfortunately.

I’ve had an initial scan of the guidance notes and am baffled by the ban on using commercial printers for publicity leaflets / flyers. Given that very few events or activities will be successful without the use of these aids the only way to produce them will be use of home printers at something like 3 or 4 times the commercial cost. This seems to be a ridiculous waste of money as well as time wasting.

No easy answer, Kim. Vigilance as we pass by and rapid clearance of anything dumped is the best I can suggest and we have a good offer to do this which I will not publicise further!

Hear!Hear! for a 20m.p.h. limit throughout Henbury village including Crow Lane.We also need a safe crossing place to access Blaise near the entrance to the Play area,especially for children with parents &/grandparents please.

Additional species seen regularly in our garden in Rectory to those listed by Chris are Goldfinch, Nuthatch and Greater Spotted Woodpecker ( the Lesser is most unlikely being rare ) together with the Green Woodpecker hunting ants in the grass.
The last sighting of Kingfisher was flying up Rectory Gardens in August 2011. Another noteworthy sighting was a Treecreeper in the Ash tree at the bottom of the Tunnel from the Churchyard in January 2012

At our last meeting we mentioned noting our wildlife observations which may be useful to projects in the future e.g. the conservation society had to fight to keep the royals from being built on in the past.Here are some I have made!The R.S.P.B.had a Garden bird watch 28/29 Jan.where you observed birds for 1 hour.My results in my garden in Henbury were as follows:2 blackbirds;2 robins;5 bluetits;2 magpies;2 dunnocks;2 great-tits;1 coaltit; 3 woodpigeons. Recently a sparrow hawk swooped down to retrieve a mouse feeding on the ground bird food.In the past I saw kingfishers in the garden and by the Hazel brook, but have not recently,has anyone else seen them? Greater spotted woodpeckers, lesser spotted woodpeckers can be seen frequently in Blaise now that the trees are bare.A green woodpecker often locates the grave yard.

I’m sorry to report that at least two of your Bird boxes have been destroyed, Whilst walking the dog today 21 Feb, I came across their remains, so sad that some mindless morons could do this
